Belhaven Moves Into Second Round

Montgomery, Ala.—Josh Parks hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the to give Belhaven a hard fought 5-4 win over Georgia Southwestern and move into the second round of the NAIA Region XIII Championship.

Belhaven scored single runs in the first and third innings to lead 2-0, but GSW starting pitcher Jason Starr settled down and only allowed one hit over the next five innings.  That allowed GSW enough time to move in front 4-3 with two runs in the fifth and seventh innings.  The lone hit Starr allowed during that time was a solo home run to Shawn Anderson.

In the bottom of the eight, Belhaven was able to even the score at four to send the game into extra innings.  That is where Parks hit his first home run of the season and it could not have come at a better time.

Lawrence came in to pitch the final three innings to pick up the win and Hyer picked up the loss.

With the win Belhaven moves to 38-17 and Ga. SW falls to 30-24.  Belhaven will face conference foe LSU-Shreveport in the second round, and Ga. SW will face Berry College in an elimination game.
