Georgia Southwestern Eliminates Berry College

Montgomery, Ala.—Georgia Southwestern’s Brian Gartley pitched a complete game four hitter en route to sending Ga. SW to a 6-2 won over Berry College in an elimination game at the NAIA Region XIII Baseball Championship.

Gartley was masterful the whole game as he only allowed one earned run with nine strikeouts in the nine-inning affair.

Berry scored first in the second inning to go up 1-0, but that lead was short lived as Ga. SW scored three times in the third to really put the game away.  The Berry offense had trouble generating any offense on the day as they were out hit 12-4.

Matthew Thomas was the hitting star for Berry as he was two for three with a home run and two RBI’s.  Ga. SW got a home run from Clayton Trenary and Ricky Hutchison and Nick Rex both had three hits for Ga. SW.

Berry ends their season at 33-26, while Ga. SW’s hopes for a regional championship are still alive as they move to 31-24 on the season.  They will continue to fight their way through the loser’s bracket as they will play in another elimination game on Friday.
