Kyle Kmiecik traded to Evansville Otters of the Frontier League
Former SWU baseball standout Kyle Kmiecik was recently traded to the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League. Kmiecik played on the 2004 Warrior baseball team that finished with a number four seed in the conference tourney and set many school records during the season.
Kmiecik was acquired from the Sioux Falls Canaries of the All-American Association for a player to be named later. He made his professional debut with the Canaries last season, hitting .273 with 19 doubles, four home runs, and 29 RBI. Kmiecik concluded his collegiate career at Southern Wesleyan University hitting .332 with four home runs and 35 RBI for the Warriors. The Illinois native is a versatile infielder, having seen action at 60 games at third base and 34 at second for Sioux Falls last year after being a shortstop in college.
"Kyle worked hard with us here at Southern Wesleyan, had a good season last summer in his first year up in Sioux Falls and I know he will do well this upcoming summer in Indiana," stated SWU head coach Mike Gillespie. "The Frontier League is an exciting league to play in with close to 1.5 million fans visiting the stadiums last summer. The chance to get picked up by another team or an MLB club is also a real possibility."
