Montgomery, Ala.—It was a match up of the top two seeds with the loser going home.  Cortez Pearson and Junior Kelly hit eighth inning home runs to keep AUM’s regional hopes alive with a 7-5 win over Belhaven.

AUM scored single runs in the first and third, but Belhaven battled back against AUM starter Brett Bowen to even the score with single runs in the second and fourth.

Again, AUM scored two runs in the fifth on run scoring doubles from Pearson and Michael Herndon as the host team took a 4-2 lead into the sixth inning.

From there things got a little dicey as Belhaven got to Bowen, scoring two runs in the top of the inning on a two run home run from Forrest Rollins.  It was only his second home run of the season.  Bowen gave way to Mark Presnell who held Belhaven to the two runs they scored, but the score was even at four.

In the top of the seventh, Belhaven took their first lead of the game on a run scoring double from Ricky Owens which scored Bryan Bennett with the go ahead score.

That led to the frantic bottom of the inning as Pearson’s two run shot gave AUM the lead back, and one batter later, Kelly’s solo shot gave AUM all the insurance they would need.

Brandon Ware came in and pitched a perfect ninth to preserve the victory for Presnell, who pitched two and one-thirds of an inning to gain his second win of the season.  The save for Ware was his seventh.

Thomas Royals pitched seven innings for Belhaven surrendering 14 hits and all seven runs.  His record fell to 8-6 on the season.

Belhaven finished their 2006 campaign with a 39-19 record and AUM moves to 44-16 on the season and now have a date with LSU-Shreveport, the only undefeated team left in the tournament tonight at 7 p.m.
