Montgomery, Ala.—There will be some great soccer in the city of Montgomery as four of the top ranked teams in the nation will get together for the AUM Men’s Soccer Classic, hosted by Auburn University Montgomery.

Along with host AUM, the other teams participating in the classic are the University of Rio Grande (Ohio), the University of Mobile and Bethel College (Ind.)

Rio Grande suffered only one loss last season and handed AUM one of their two losses. This season they enter the classic ranked fourth in the nation and won their only match so far. Bethel College is also 1-0 coming into the tournament and are ranked 13th in the nation in the preseason poll. They were supposed to play Rio Grande last week, but the match was cancelled due to the weather.

Mobile is the third participating team and will be playing their first match of the season when they open classic play on Friday, Sept. 1 at noon against Rio Grande. Mobile is ranked 30th in the preseason poll. The 2:30 p.m. match will be AUM and Bethel.

Friday’s match will be poster day for all the AUM fans as schedule posters will be handed out. The schedule posters will have the schedules of both the AUM men and women’s programs listed on them along with photos of senior All-Americans Lindsey Hudson and Hjortur Hjartarson.

On Saturday, the four teams will swap opponents as Mobile will play Bethel at noon and AUM will try and get some revenge against Rio Grande in a 2:30 p.m. match.

AUM enters the match with a 1-0 record. They defeated Shorter 4-1 last week to open the season. They also have one exhibition match under their belts with a 1-0 win at the University of Montevallo.
