JACKSON, Tenn. – The “Stars” of Oklahoma City University took a 15 point lead going into the half and never looked back to defeat the “Lady Saints” of North Georgia College and State University 82-63 in the first quarterfinal game at the 24th Annual NAIA Division I Women’s National Basketball Tournament.

Not even Mother Nature could stop the Stars as play was halted with 18:20 remaining in the contest as the power was temporarily knocked out of Oman Arena due to heavy thunderstorm activity. North Georgia put together a run to close the gap to 8 points with 11:16 remaining, but was overwhelmed with OCU’s Sadio Sangare and her 27 points along with Kesha Watson and her 21 points.

In the first half, the Stars shot 47.2% from the field, 18.2% from behind the arc and were a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. At the same time, the Lady Saints struggled, shooting only 25.6% from the field, 11.1% from behind the arc, and 75% from the line.

The second half proved better for both teams as the Stars shot 52.9%, compared to North Georgia’s 50.0% from the field. Overall, North Georgia shot 34.9% while Oklahoma City shot 50.0% from the field.

Kesha Watson of Oklahoma City University moved her way up in the NAIA tournament record books. Watson has moved from #13 to #6 in All Time Scoring Leaders in tournament play. In a total of 18 games, Watson now has 114 field goals and 52 free throws for a total of 298 total points for an average of 16.6 points per game.

The Lady Saints of North Georgia College and State University College put three players in double-digit scoring, led by Brandi Owen with 17 points. Angelyn Love followed with 13 points and Katie Williamson added 13 points. The Lady Saints end the season with a 30-6 record in their eighth national tournament appearance.

The #1 seed Oklahoma City University (37-1) now advances into the 6:00 p.m. semifinals Monday, March 22nd. The Stars will play the winner of the quarterfinal game between the #1 seed Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.) against #2 seed Houston Baptist University on Saturday, March 20th.
