OLATHE, Kan. - Lee University senior middle blocker Bruna Langner capped off a career of many honors by being named a 2006 second-team All-American by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Berry College's middle blocker Meghan Francis was selected as third-team All-American, while Lee senior outside hitter Ligia Zobolli was the only other Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) listed on the All-American squad. Zobolli was honorable mention.
Langner, a four-year starter for coach Andrea Hudson, helped the Lady Flames rack up 144 wins against just 34 defeats during her Lee career. Those wins included four straight conference and region titles, plus four trips to the NAIA National Volleyball Tournament. Both Langner and Zobolli have earned key spots in the Lee record book.
Langner was named the SSAC and Region XIII Player of the Year and was a third-team All-American as a junior. Berry's Francis and Lee's Zobolli were also top selections on the conference and region teams. Lee finished 17th and Berry 20th in the final NAIA national rankings.
"Bruna and Ligia have not only developed into fine volleyball players, but they have improved so much academically over the past four years," said coach Hudson. "I am very proud of both young ladies. They represent what being a student-athlete is all about."
