Forrer Throws No Hitter
Mt. Vernon, Ga.—Daniel Forrer, Montgomery, pitched a no-hitter for Auburn University Montgomery leading the Senators to a 15-0 win at Brewton-Parker College. The game was shortened to seven innings due to the 10-run rule, but Forrer finished with seven strikeouts in picking up his second win of the season.
The no-hitter was the fourth in AUM history, with the last no-hitter coming back in 1995 when Jason Stamp no-hit Sienna University.
Forrer has been stellar this season so far. He has pitched 19.2 innings and only allowed five hits and four earned runs. He also leads the team in strikeouts with 27.
Forrer had a lot of help offensively as Junior Kelley, Whatley, continues to play well coming off an NAIA First Team All-America season. All he did in yesterday’s game was go three-for-three at the plate with a home run and two RBI’s. The home run was his team-leading third of the season.
Paul Vazquez, Columbus, Ga., had four hits in five at bats with a double and three RBI’s. Freshman Bruce Alter, Montgomery, was two-for-four with a double and scored two runs. Allan Ponder, Auburn, also had two hits in four at bats with a triple and two RBI’s.
The win breaks a two-game losing streak and moves AUM to 11-4 overall and 1-0 in Southern States Athletic Conference action. Brewton-Parker falls to 7-3 and 0-1. The two teams will play a double-header tomorrow in Mt. Vernon beginning at 11 a.m. CST.
