MOUNT BERRY, Ga. ... The Berry baseball team held its first-ever night practice at William R. Bowdoin Field on Wednesday night. It was the first time that the Vikings have been able to take advantage of the new lights on the field as installation was completed on Tuesday.

The eight light polls completely light the field and make the field available for night practices and games. Currently, the lights are undergoing a 100-hour burn that will maximize the illumination capacity of the lighting system. As a result of this burn, the lights will be on from 8 a.m. Wednesday until noon Sunday.

Because the team has only one home series remaining on the schedule, the Vikings will not officially unveil the lights with a night game this season. However, the team did move the start of the Friday, April 13 game against Reinhardt to 6 p.m. to avoid a conflict with the inauguration ceremony of Berry College President Stephen R. Briggs. The late start time will likely require the use of the lights to complete the game.

The Berry baseball team is in action this weekend with a Southern States Athletic Conference series at Brewton Parker. The two teams begin the series Friday with a 7 p.m. start. The series finishes Saturday with a double header starting at 1 p.m. The Vikings are 25-17 this season and hold an 8-10 conference mark. The Vikings are 16-3 in home games this season.
