FORT GAINES, Ga. ... The Berry women's golf team, led by tournament-winner Jayne Curtis, fired a 315 on the final day to score a team total of 930 and win the NAIA Regional Tournament. The win gives the sixth-ranked Vikings an automatic-bid into the NAIA National Tournament.

Curtis sank a birdie-put on the 18th green Tuesday to finish the day with a score of 75. That one stroke proved the difference as Curtis' 225 beat out her teammate Elizabeth Gemmill by one-stroke for the tournament championship. As a result, Curtis is named Regional Golfer of the Year.
Gemmill finished second and earned All-Region honors after shooting 79 on the final day with a total score 226. She was one of four Berry players to earn All-Region recognition.

Amy Goble finished third overall at the tournament with a score of 242 after shooting 83 on the final day of competition. Jennifer Tallent also made the All-Region team as she fired a final-round of 78 and finished with a 245. Gwen Wiencek shot 95 for her final round and finished the tournament with a score of 263.

Berry head coach Brian Farrer was named the Regional Coach of the Year. For Farrer this is the third-consecutive time that he has led the Lady Vikings to the regional title.

The Vikings won by 46-strokes over second place Mobile, which shot 320 on the final day. The Rams entered the tournament with a No. 11 ranking in the NAIA National Poll and finished the tournament with a score of 976.

The Regional Tournament combines teams from Regions XII and XIII to determine an overall champion. That champion recieves the region's automatic-bid to the NAIA National Tournament.

The next appearance for the Berry women's golf team is at the NAIA National Championship Tournament. This year the tournament is  hosted by CSU-San Marcos from May 15-18 in San Marcos, Calif.

The event will be held at the Lake San Marcos Country Club where the Vikings played once already this year. Berry placed eighth against a nationally-ranked field in the CSU-San Marcos Invitational in February. However, that event was limited to just one round due to inclement weather conditions. The National Championship with be a four-day, 72-hole tournament.
