Senior forward Hjortar Hjartarson (AUM) from Reykjavik, Iceland was chosen as the SSAC Male Athlete of the Year at the SSAC annual awards luncheon yesterday.


During his four year career at AUM, Hjartarson set numerous school, conference and NAIA records including points scored with 308 and goals scored with 136. He was named All-Conference and All-American all four years he played for AUM and in his junior and senior years he was named the Brine-NAIA Player of the Year in Men’s Soccer. The Senators qualified for the National Tournament each of his four years and were runners-up for the National Championship during his sophomore campaign.
