EUGENE, Ore. - Former Lee University shortstop Lance Zawadzki will forever remember his first plate appearance in professional baseball. The fourth-round draft pick of the San Diego Padres stepped to the dish on Tuesday evening against Boise, Idaho and crushed a solo home run.

Zawadzki, who paced the Flames in hitting (.461) this past season, was making his first appearance of the season for the Eugene, Ore. Emeralds of the Class A Northwest League. He missed the first seven games of the early season due to a shoulder injury. The injury occurred while helping the Flames win 51 games and in earning a select spot in the NAIA College World Series.

Officially he was 1-for-4 in his first start, but reports out of Eugene said he hit the ball hard on all four trips to the plate. Zawadzki also played errorless ball in the field for the Emeralds. The Oregon club is off to a quick 6-2 start in the Northwest League.
