LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Ricardo Pierre-Louis not only led the Lee men's soccer team to an impressive 6-1 victory over rival Covenant College on Saturday afternoon, he also broke the Flames' career-scoring record.

The old record was held by Lee Hall of Fame member Emil Brown. The talented Brown, who finished his four-year career in 1998, scored 82 goals in 91 games. Pierre-Louis tallied five goals in the romp over the Scots on Saturday and has currently posted a remarkable 86 goals in just 52 games.

"I am so proud of Ricardo," said coach Henry Moyo after the record-breaking performance. "What he has done in 2 1/2 years at Lee is incredible. He's helped take our soccer program to a new level. He is a highly respected young man on the soccer field and in the classroom."

Playing on an extremely hot September day on top of Lookout Mountain, the Flames fell behind 1-0 as Jake Warren headed in a loose ball in the fifth minute of action. Alec Waller got the assist.

"That concerned me," admitted Moyo. "We talked before the match about not letting Covenant get off to the fast start. However, we bounced right back and really played well the next 20-25 minutes. It was very hot, but our guys controlled the pace of the game."

The Flames countered with three straight goals by Pierre-Louis and commanded a 3-1 advantage at the half-time break. Pierre-Louis tied Brown's scoring record with a goal at the 26:30 mark. He was assisted by the always present Stanley Nyazamba.

Pierre-Louis' history-making goal came at 32:51 in the first half. The score came off a corner kick by Phil Drummond. The scoring machine's third goal of the half came as the result of a diving header off a cross by Joseph Connor and Drummond.

The day was far from finished for Pierre-Louis. He came right back with his fourth goal of the day in only the sixth minute of the second half. Aldo Heredia got the assist.

The surge by the 6-0-1 and nation's sixth-ranked Flames continued. Ivan Heredia claimed his third goal of the season on a double assist from Drummond and Nyazamba. The final score of the contest came in the 77th minute when Pierre-Louis stepped up and knocked in a penalty kick.

"Our defense dictated play, just the way we wanted them to," said Moyo, who has watched his Flames outscore opponents 22-1 over the last five games. "John (Milhomme) continues to improve on offense and we got a chance to play several of our other younger players. Nick (Lowrey), Owen (Gombami) and Moise (Leonce) have shown us a great deal and are proving they are ready to play at this level."

The Flames will move back into SSAC play on Tuesday evening when they host Reinhardt College in a 7 p.m. start.
