MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Lee's Ricardo Pierre-Louis and Berry's Mike Wentzler earned the Southern States Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week Awards, the conference office announced on Monday. Wentzler maintained an impressive shutout streak, while Pierre-Louis had a record-setting performance on the week.

Pierre-Louis, a senior from Leogane, Haiti, had eight goals in the week as the No. 6-ranked Lee Flames cruised to a pair of victories. The Flames striker had three goals and an assist in Lee's 5-0 win over Belhaven. He then struck for five goals during the team's 6-1 win over Covenant. In doing so, Pierre-Louis equaled the Lee record for most career goals. In just 52 games, the striker, who plays on the Haitian National Team, has scored 86 goals. That remarkable total will only grow as the Lee team still has over 10 games left to play this season. Pierre-Louis has scored an average of two goals per-game this season as he has 14 goals in just seven contests.

On the defensive side of the ball, Berry's Mike Wentzler began the 2007 season without allowing a goal. He continued that streak for the first 285 minutes of the new year as he recorded three-consecutive shutouts. The last of those shutouts came against No. 23 Savannah College of Art & Design. The Duluth, Ga. native, recorded 13 saves this week, including 7 saves to preserve a shutout in the team's 3-0 win over SCAD. Against the Bees, Wentzler twice saved one-on-one opportunities. The streak came to an end as the Vikings fell to University of the Cumberlands (Ky.), but the senior fought hard posting six saves in the match.
