Megan Francis (Berry College) has been named Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks. Francis, a 6’1 junior from Anchorage, Alaska, helped lead the Vikings to a 2-2 week.
After hitting .348 with 12 kills and five blocks in a 3-0 victory over Southern Wesleyan, Francis had a strong weekend against some tough competition in the Lee Invitational. For the weekend, Francis had 30 kills and 13 blocks as the Vikings went 1-2.
Setter of the Week, Brittany Strickland (Columbia College), had a very solid and consistent week as she led the Koalas to a 3-0 week. Strickland, a 5’5 junior from Savannah, Ga., averaged 11.56 assists per game and chipped in 23 digs and six service aces during the week. Her 41 assists in a 3-0 victory over Paine College was her highest assist total of the week.
Keni Abercrombie (Southern Wesleyan), named Libero of the Week, played some terrific back row in the Warriors 1-2 week. In the first two matches, she recorded 20 digs in a 0-3 loss to Berry College and 19 digs in a 0-3 loss to Brevard College. For the week, she averaged 5.11 digs, chipped in six service aces, and passed 83 of 85 serve reception successfully. Abercrombie is a 5’3 freshman from Pickens, SC.
Other notable performances:
Courtney Green (Columbia College): Averaged 3.56 kills per game, 1.67 digs per game, and had a hitting percentage of .368
Kate Puckett (Shorter College): Had 14 kills and four blocks in Shorter’s 3-0 victory at Brewton Parker College.
Kristy Walker (Shorter College): Had 32 assists in only two games as Shorter defeated Brewton Parker College.
Shawn Carroll (Berry College): Averaged 4.67 digs and had seven service aces in Berry’s 2-2 week.
Megan Johnson (Brewton Parker College): Averaged 4.80 digs as Brewton Parker went 2-2.
