
Megan Francis (Berry College) has been named Southern States Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the third time this season. Francis, a junior from middle hitter from Anchorage, Alaska, was a dominant force at the net for her team during their 2-0 week. Francis totaled 23 kills and eight blocks in Berry’s 3-1 victory over Faulkner University and then followed that up with 14 kills and six blocks in their 3-1 defeat of Columbia College. For the week, Francis had a very efficient hitting percentage of .429.
The SSAC Setter of the Week award goes to Callie Bynum (Brewton Parker College), a senior from Guntersville, Ala. Bynum helped led the Lady Barons to a 2-1 week, including a 3-2 victory over NCAA Division I opponent Savannah State University where she totaled 41 assists and 10 digs. For the week, she averaged 8.86 assists per game.
Another repeat award winner this week is Faulkner University’s Carrie Butler who has been named Libero of the Week for the second time. In a busy week for the Lady Eagles where they played five matches, Butler averaged 5.57 digs per game, tallied eight service aces, and had a service reception percentage of .944. Butler was strong in two 3-2 match victories, recording 33 digs against Spring Hill College and 30 digs against Reinhardt College.
Other Notable Performances:
TaSheena Brown (Brewton Parker College): Totaled 21 kills in 2-3 loss to Benedict College.
Shawn Carroll (Berry College): Averaged 4.25 digs and had a .938 reception percentage as Berry went 2-0.
Shaleen Knight (Faulkner University): Averaged 6.57 assists per game and 1.95 digs per game in 4-1 week.
Meagan Pedersen (Reinhardt College): Totaled 88 assists in two five game defeats.
Tina Questel (Lee University): Recorded 22 kills in Lee’s 3-2 victory over Alabama-Huntsville.
