MONTGOMERY, ALA.—For three seasons Magnus Olafsson has been a solid and steady player for the Auburn University Montgomery men’s soccer program.

He has also been playing in the shadow of former three-time All-American and two-time NAIA Player of the Year, Hjortur Hjartarson.  What people did not notice was the ability of Olafsson to score points via the goal and assist and his slow and steady rise up the AUM career scoring charts.

He entered the 2007 season with 91 career points, needing only nine points to become the seventh player in AUM history to score 100 career points.

When the Senators defeated The Cumberlands (Ky.) on Sept. 23, Olafsson scored a goal and had an assist in the three to one win.  Those three points gave Olafsson exactly 100 for his career and moved him into the elite AUM 100 point club.

Olafsson, one of three seniors on this young Senators team, is being counted on this season more than ever for his leadership abilities.  He has become more of a vocal leader on the field and has moved into the position once manned by Hjartson as a mid forward.

Olafsson’s point totals during his first three season’s shows his steady play.  He scored 30 points as a freshman, 36 as a sophomore and had 25 last season.  In each of his three seasons, Olafsson has been the second leading scorer on the team, trailing only Hjartarson each year.  Being overshadowed by Hjartarson has also hurt Olafsson in post season awards as he has only received one All-SSAC honor in his three seasons at AUM.

Olafsson has moved up the AUM career ladder in other categories as well.  Entering the final month of the season, Olafsson is eighth in matches played (80), eighth in goals (36), eighth in assists (33) and seventh in career points (105).
