Gorana Maric, Brittany Strickland, and Shawn Carroll have been recognized by the Southern States Athletic Conference as winners of the conference’s weekly volleyball awards.

Maric, a sophomore outside hitter from Bosnia/Herzegovina, has been named SSAC Player of the Week.  Maric played a key role in Lee University’s 3-0 victory over Berry College last Friday. In 26 attempts, she had 16 kills and only 2 hitting errors for an impressive .538 hitting percentage while also chipping in three digs and one block as the Lady Flames won 30-21, 30-22, 30-25.

Strickland, a 5’5 junior setter from Savannah, Ga. has won the SSAC Setter of the Week award for the second time this season. In helping lead Columbia College to a 2-0 week, Strickland averaged 12.7 assists per game and 2.4 digs per game. In the Fighting Koalas 3-1 victory over Southern Wesleyan, Strickland had 52 assists. This is Strickland’s second SSAC Setter of the Week award this season.

Berry College’s Carroll, a junior libero from College Park, Ga., has been named SSAC Libero of the Week. In two matches, she recorded 5.6 digs per game, including 26 in a 3-1 victory over Reinhardt College that clinched second place in SSAC standings for the Vikings. Carroll also recorded two service aces during Berry’s 1-1 week. This is the second time Carroll has won this award in the last three weeks.

Other Notable Performances:

Grace Bannon (Berry College): Recorded 18 kills and 12 digs in Berry’s 3-1 victory over Reinhardt.

Megan Cheatam (Berry College): Had 30 assists as Berry defeated Reinhardt.

Danielle Guiterrez (Columbia College): Averaged 5.9 digs per game as Fighting Koalas went 2-0.

Milica Krsmanovic (Lee University): Totaled five kills, 19 assists, eight digs, three blocks and two service aces

in 3-0 victory over Berry, clinching 12-0 SSAC record.
