
The SSAC volleyball teams anticipate the 2007 championship which begins Thursday at Brewton Parker College. The first set of games begins at 1 p.m. The second set of matches is at 3 p.m. When the first round has ended each team will attend the annual awards banquet. The award winners will be anounced on the SSAC website late Thursday night.
Lee University came out on top of the regular season this year with an impressive 12 wins and 0 conference losses. Tina Questel leads the Flames with 459 kills. Sophomore Milica Krsmanovic served up 444 aces this season, as well as 262 kills. The Lady Flames defend their perfect record with tough competition. Berry College had a successful season with a record of 9-3. Faulkner University follows closely finishing 8-3 in conference. Next is Reinhardt, who finished 7-4. Shorter finishes with a 7-5 conference record. Southern Wesleyan finished 4-8, Columbia College 3-9 and Brenau University 1-10.
Thurday at 1 p.m. No.4 Reinhardt College will match up with No.5 Shorter College. Reinhardt won in four close games last time they faced Shorter. The Eagles’ winning scores were 31-29, 30-28 and 30-27. The winner will advance to game 7 Friday at 4 p.m. where they will play the winner of No.1 Lee University and No.8 Brenau University.
The Lee Flames and Brenau Tigers’ game is at 3 p.m. Lee dominated Brenau the last game they played. The Flames won after 3 games with scores of 30-13, 30-20 and 30-15.
The No.3 team, Faulkner University Lady Eagles face the No.6 team Southern Wesleyan at 1 p.m. The Eagles won in three games when they competed against Southern Wesleyan earlier in the season with scores of 30-15, 30-22 and 30-24. The winner of this game will move to game 8 Friday at 10 a.m. to play the winner of No. 2 Berry College and No. 7 Columbia College.
The last time Berry and Columbia met Berry enjoyed the victory in 4 games. The wining scores were 30-17, 30-8 and 30-24.
