BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Auburn University at Montgomery head baseball coach Q.V. Lowe has been named the 2007 Alabama Baseball Coaches Association College Coach-of-the-Year.

The award is voted on by a committee that looks at the year the team had which includes their record and their conference record along with their region and post-season play.  The coaches association has honors for high school, junior college, small college and four year college coaches.  The four-year college award includes all coaches from NAIA, NCAA Division I and NCAA Division II schools.

Lowe is not a newcomer to the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association, as he was inducted into the Association’s Hall-of-Fame in 2005, but this is the first time he has received this award.

Last season Lowe led AUM to their second consecutive Southern States Athletic Conference regular season championship.  The Senators finished the season with a school-record 51 wins and a fourth place ranking in the final NAIA top-25 poll.

He enters the 2008 season with 995 wins, needing only five more wins to reach to coveted 1,000 wins plateau.  He has an overall record of 995-529-4 through 29 years of coaching for a winning percentage of .651.

He has led AUM to three World Series appearances with one runners-up finish in 1990.  He has also led AUM to seven conference championships and eight conference tournament and region championships.  He was named the NAIA National Coach-of-the-Year in 1990 and is a two-time conference coach-of-the-year honoree.

At AUM, Lowe has coached 61 all-conference players, 43 all region or all-area players and 34 NAIA All-Americans.  He has also seen 25 of his players move on to the professional baseball ranks following their collegiate careers.

Lowe will receive the award on January 18, 2008 at the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association awards ceremony at the Marriott Hotel on highway 280 in Birmingham.  The ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m.
