Montgomery, AL – Defending national champion Faulkner University (Ala.) tops the 2014 NAIA Baseball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Tuesday. Other SSAC teams receiving ranks are the No. 17 Southern Polytechnic State University Hornets (Ga.) who went 29-18 overall last season and the No. 24 William Carey Crusaders who ended their finished 36-23. Although Belhaven Univesity was not ranked in the Top 25, the Blazers were listed under teams receiving votes.
MARIETTA, Ga. – Two current Southern Polytechnic State University baseball coaches and a former player were recently honored statewide by coaches associations for having successful 2013 seasons.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Defending national champion Faulkner is No. 1 in the NAIA's coaches' preseason baseball poll released this week by the association. Patrick McCarthy's Eagles finished the 2013 season with a 56-11 record, winning both the Southern States Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles before sweeping through the Avista-NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho, to capture the title.
WALESKA, Ga. – Nick Blount, a former baseball player at Southern Polytechnic State University, just completed his first season of professional baseball as a member of the Great Falls (Mont.) Voyagers, where he put together solid numbers and helped lead his team to the Pioneer League playoffs. Blount was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the ninth round (273rd overall) of the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft and spent the entire summer with Great Falls, an advanced rookie league affiliate of the White Sox.
