MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Defending national champion Faulkner is No. 1 in the NAIA's coaches' preseason baseball poll released this week by the association. Patrick McCarthy's Eagles finished the 2013 season with a 56-11 record, winning both the Southern States Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles before sweeping through the Avista-NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho, to capture the title.
WALESKA, Ga. – Nick Blount, a former baseball player at Southern Polytechnic State University, just completed his first season of professional baseball as a member of the Great Falls (Mont.) Voyagers, where he put together solid numbers and helped lead his team to the Pioneer League playoffs. Blount was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the ninth round (273rd overall) of the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft and spent the entire summer with Great Falls, an advanced rookie league affiliate of the White Sox.
MARIETTA, Ga. – Scott Mularz has joined the Southern Polytechnic State University Department of Athletics as an assistant baseball coach. As head coach Marty Lovrich's top aide, Mularz assists in all aspects of the Southern Polytechnic baseball program and serves as the team's pitching coach.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Faulkner head baseball coach Patrick McCarthy has been named the 2013 NAIA-Baseball Coaches Association (NAIA-BCA) National Coach of the Year, the NAIA announced Tuesday. McCarthy, who competed his fourth season at Faulkner in 2013, guided the Eagle baseball program to its first-ever Avista-NAIA World Series championship this season.
